I spent the weekend and today working on the emission-line archetypes project, which makes use of binary programming. At the same time that I started to get concerned that this is the wrong approach (I have what may be a better method that makes use of density estimation with delta functions), I found that the engineering-grade binary programming solvers are awesome.
